Problem Solving

Problem Solving

This is a great way to get your students thinking about math themselves and having the ability to be creative with math. Students would choose a domino, draw the domino at the top of their paper. From this they would create a picture and story problem for these numbers. This could be completed in the student's Math Journal or during Daily 5.

I love this problem solving idea!!! To start, one would give an answer:  The answer is 6 cowboys.
Students would then think of all the facts they could think of where the answer to the fact would be 6.
Next, the teacher would begin to read the story problem slowly. As he or she is reading the problem, students would listen to the word problem and cross out any facts they know would not work for the problem being read.
The teacher would then have the students tell the class what number sentence they believe fits the answer and problem. This is a great way to really have your students think about problem solving!!
